Brest 2016 – Epoxy.is

Brest 2016 is a maritime festival. It takes place every 4 years in Brest. It’s one of the biggest shows of this kind in the world. More than 1000 boats were participating to this event. What I find really great about this festival it’s you can see and visit all kind of boats, from the smallest to the biggest sailboat in the world, from oldest to the latest carbon racing sailboat. Powerboat too, tugboat, frigate, steamboat…

Harbor of Brest. Full of all kind of boats.

Krusenstern. With the Sedov, it’s the biggest sailboat in activity in the world. 4 masted barque.

Hermione. Before being a character in Harry Potter, it was a sailboat. This frigate brought Lafayette to victory against the British in US. This victory helped US to keep its independence. This vessel was rebuilt in Rochefort in the years 2000 with the exact same method and tools as the original. In 2015, she sailed to US to celebrate the Independence day.

The last day of this event, all the boats sailed between Brest and Douarnenez. A big mess but really beautiful :

Open 60. It’s the kind of boat that are doing the Vendée globe, race around the world single handed.

Trimaran VOD70. It’s the fastest category of sailboat in the word. Built to cross ocean at crazy speed (30kn)

I am writing this post from Algarve in Portugal, and I can write, really proudly, that so far, these 2 moderns racing boats are the only sailboat that have beaten Kata Lind so far. But they even don’t have a toilet inside! Off Lisbon, Kata Lind has even beaten a Volvo70 racing boat . But that’s another story…
